  • Advice on marketing strategies for online jewellery business

Posted by keno on April 24, 2024 at 12:37 pm

    Hi there,

We recently started a new online jewellery business where we import and sell various pieces of jewellery. I’ve been exploring different marketing strategies and I’ve seen a lot of businesses using tactics like “like and share” on social media. I was wondering if you have any insight on whether these strategies actually work or if you have any unique ideas that have been successful for your business.

Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

    Hi Keno

Thanks for the valid and thought provoking question that has stimulated some serious reflection.

I will make a point of getting some engagement from social media experts and encourage them to join the platform in the next few days.

The Board has also recently launched and is effectively an online business, which is daunting when starting out. It’s import to focus on your core product , your ideal identified customer segment and start by attempting to reach them on appropriate platforms. We have selected Linked,Insta and Facebook.

There are thousands of great articles on the different social media penetration strategies that we have explored and I will gladly share a few on mail.

It’s important to start with the basics such as digging deep into understanding your online audience, their purchasing behaviour and where your product aligns to that? “IE: is it an impulse buy?” What content appeals to them? and then targeting them on the appropriate platform in the appropriate manner.

To start off an online business and attempt to shoestring the reach and penetration, takes times and patience in building up a customer base. If you have the budget engaging a specialised digital marketer – in your industry of choice – can really add a lot of value, even if it is just for an initial consult.

Other than than that, your product must appeal and have impact, your website is key and search engine optimisation is critical.

Currently reading a great resource – One Million Followers: How I built a massive social following in 30 days by Brendan Kane( Taylor Swifts guy – so must be doing something right).

Will see what resources we can get to engage in the next few days.

Will keep you updated on any learnings from our side.

    PS :Your website is beautiful.

Thank you! I appreciate your insights and I now realize that I have a lot of work to do.

If I may ask another question,

I’m passionate about homeware and I would like to include it as a product offering on my e-commerce site. However, it’s not related to jewellery, which is the main product I sell. Should I wait for the jewellery sales to take off or start offering homeware as well? As jewellery has a low profit margin, it might take a long time for it to become profitable. Also, is it possible to offer both jewellery and homeware on the same e-commerce site, even though they are unrelated products?

      Hi Keno

The best time to launch a new product or business was yesterday. The next best time is today.

However, having said that be sure to clearly identify your segments which will be very different and you may well dilute the appeal of the jewellery when combining them with homeware. However if your segmentation is low cost deals then it could work to combine them. Typically the norm would be combining and packaging complimentary products.

Additional considerations could be capacity financially to carry the multiple product lines or just your ability to give the various products sufficient attention to get them to market suitably.
